Thiruvananthapuram : Health Minister KK Shailaja urged Centre urged for emergency vaccine consignment for Kerala against its earlier demand placed for for 50 lakh doses. Mass testing has begun as part of “Crushing The Curve” campaign to contain huge surges, the minister said.
The state has received a total of 65 lakh doses so far while daily shots administered exceed 2 lakhs. The stock on hand is below 2 lakh doses currently. The supply shortage has significantly hampered vaccination process in the state Vaccination has begun for persons over 18 and it is crucial to keep the process uninterrupted, hence the emergency arrangements for replenishment, the minister said in her communication with the centre.
2,02,313 persons were vaccinated today. Thee are 1430 vaccination centres including 1100 govt hospitals and 300 private hospitals. A total of 62,36,676 persons have received the shots so far of whom, 54,38,319 are first-time receivers. 7,98,357 persons were administered shots in phase-2 of the vaccination drive.
Covid vaccination began in state since 16 January. In the first phase, vaccines were administered in preferential order comprising health workers,covid frontline workers, poll duty staff, resident aged over 60, those aged between 45 and 59 and persons with any one qualifying health condition.
