Thiruvananthapuram : Senior Congress leader Vakkom Purushotaman passed away at his residence in Kumarapuram this noon. He was 96. He has served as Governor, Minister, MP and Legislative Assembly Speaker. The Congress veteran has been living a reclined life for a long time now owing to age-related illnesses.
Vakkom was Governor in states of Mizoram and Tripura. He entered the power corridor winning from Assembly constituency of Attingal, where he bagged victory five times. He also won from the Alappuzha constituency twice as MP. He has served as minister in state thrice and Speaker of the Legislative Assembly twice.
Vakkom has also worked as DCC president and General Secretary vice president of KPCC. A law graudate, Vakkom Purushotaman is son of Bhanu Panicker and Bhavavni from Vakkom village of Attingal taluk in Thiruvananthapuram.
