Thiruvananthapuram : Apparently bitten by his own words, Opposition Leader VD Satheesan kept away from Congress’s Stop The Wheel protest slated 11 – 11.15 am Monday. The party had held similar protest last week in Kochi that quickly snowballed into confrontation with public and actor Joju George, whose car Congress workers wrecked. Following the incident, VD Satheesan told the Assembly, he was against that kind of traffic-crippling protest – a stand that has now boomeranged, preventing participation in the party-organised protests across party headquarters in the state.
Satheesan however downplayed his absence saying it was owing to ongoing Assembly session – a rather flimsy excuse, given that protest in capital is at as close a venue as Palayam. KPCC president K Sudhakaran came to Satheesan’s aid, offering theory that not all leaders are required to take partake in the protest. Meanwhile, clashes were reported in Palakkad and Kannur where police tried to block choking of major traffic junction.
