Munnar : Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala’s ethnically divisive remark in terms of Tamil-Malayali communities is an utterly irresponsible statement, said LDF Convener A Vijayaraghavan during his visit to Pettimudi, where massive landslide struck killing at least 42 people and scores are still missing.
Chennithala’s claims hinge on baseless allegations against solatium planned by the state government; they are eking out politics even from within a disaster, Vijayaraghavan said. The government is extending all necessary care and aid to families struck by the landslide. Karipur and Pettimudi tragedies are two varied kinds of disasters. Karipur incident does not have a rehabilitation aspect. That however is not the case with Pettimudi. Families here have been devastated with their homes destroyed, apart from their loved ones killed or missing. That calls for massive relief efforts and rehabilitation plans. The Opposition leader is conveniently ignoring essential facts to weave false propaganda against government even at a time like this, said Vijayaraghavan. And, their intentions are not meant for the wellbeing of anyone, he added.
Chennithala on Sunday had labeled government solatium as discriminative, wholly discounting the essential nature of the two tragedies and relief activities, and rehabilitation efforts involved thereof.
The disaster site at Pettimudi was also toured by KJ Thomas, member of CPI(M) Secretariat.
