Thiruvanantahpruam : The CPI(M) State Secretariat called for strong protest against BJP attacks on MPs and their teams who are visiting places in Tripura struck by violence post polls.
Violence, including arson, has escalated since recent Assembly elections. More than thousand attacks were perpetrated against Opposition Party workers in the past 10 days. Hundreds of workers were critically injured. Around 700 houses were set on fire or vandalised. Houses of MPs and Party Leaders were attacked. The police are unwilling to take action against perpetrators.
It is against this backdrop that MPs arrived in Tripura to take firsthand stock of the situation. Attempts were made to torch, vandalise their vehicles or attack the parliamentarians physically. Attacks were unleashed on Kerala MPs including Elamaram Kareem and AA Rahim. The situation in Tripura as of now is that, not even MPs can travel around safely.
There should arise strong protest against Sangh Parivar adamance that it will not allow anybody to conduct oneself on democratic lines, said the State Secretariat in its statement.
