Thiruvananthapuram : Vismaya case accused Kiran Kumar has been terminated from service following disciplinary action initiated at departmental level, the Transport Minister Raju Antony announced Friday. Kiran Kumar was Asst. Motor Vehicle Inspector with traffic department. The termination is as per service rules and upon finding incriminating evidence against Kiran Kumar in the case, the minister said.
A departmental inquiry had ensued following news breakout of the infamous dowry death and the action in line with provisions of service laws. The 1960 statute classifies harm to women, anti-social activities and gender discrimination as grave offences and breach of service law. Government employees are not allowed to give or receive dowry, both of which are rule violations as well. The disciplinary action has been taken after careful consideration of law provisions, said the minister.
This is the first time in the history of India, where a government employee is terminated over dowry death of his wife. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had earlier warned of stringent action against dowry related violences.
Kiran’s wife Vismaya was found dead at his house in Kollam on 21 June. The death suspected to be murder by her parents is said to have come after prolonged torture over dowry.
