Vismaya Case : Court Rejects Convict’s Plea To Set Aside Punishment

Kochi : The High Court on Tuesday dismissed plea from Kiran Kumar, the husband convicted of abetting suicide in Vismaya case. Kiran in his plea sought to set aside the sentencing. The dismissal came from Division Bench of the High Court.

Kiran sought staying of the sentence till a time when verdict over his appeal was pronounced.

Backdrop : Kiran Kumar received 10-year jail sentence following his wife Vismaya’s death under mysterious circumstance. 22-year-old Vismaya was a Ayurveda medical student and was found dead in her husband’s home. Evidences of dowry harassment and domestic violence emerged during investigations. Kiran was eventually found guilty and sentenced by the trial court of Kollam Additional District and Sessions Judge in May of 2022.
