Kollam : Police will record arrest of Kollam native Kiran Kumar on suspected murder of his wife Vismaya, who was found hanging from the bathroom ceiling of his house in Poruvazhi. Kiran who went into hiding soon after the incident surrendered himself at Shooranaad police station yesterday. Meanwhile, Vismaya’s father and brother insist the death is not suicide and rather a case of murder.
The postmortem report, expected to shed light on cause of death, will be received today. Vanitha Commission member Shahida Kamal will visit Vismaya’s family at their home. Kiran Kumar is Asst. Motor Vehicle Inspector attached to Mobile Enforcement Unit in Kottarakkara.
Vismaya’s family learned of her death by hanging only on Monday morning. Relatives said, ever since her marriage, Vismaya was mentally and physically tortured over dowry dissatisfaction.
Vismaya had shared with her family pictures of marks from bodily torture. And, the death by hanging followed shortly after she revealed the violence. 24-year-old Vismaya was brought dead to the hospital where her death has been confirmed as having coccurred 2 hours prior. Vismaya’s father said the dowry, as agreed at time of marriage, was given and comprised comprised 1.25 acres, 100 pavan gold, Rs. 14 lakh in cash and a car below Rs 10 lakh. However, dowry demands increased after marriage. Vismaya and Kiran were married in May of 2020.
