Thiruvananthapuram : Leaving Waqf Board appointments to PSC was no secret decision, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the Assembly on Wednesday. Even so, the government did not taken any follow-up steps toward recruitments via the PSC.
Legislation shall be formulated to decide how the new Waqf recruitment procedure via PSC is to be. In this regard, the decision taken by Muslim organisations in their meeting has been approved in theory. The system of recruiting eligible candidates shall be done by effecting amendments to the legislation, said CM.
It is not possible to compare the state government stance to the Central govt attitude. The employees currently on Waqf board cannot lose their jobs, said CM.
In its meeting held 19 July, 2016 , the Waqf Board had decided on PSC via recruitments and when the Bill was passed to the Subject Committee, there was no objection raised. Once the Bill was passed and legislation made, some Muslim organisations raised some concerns. The government then summoned a meeting of Muslim organisations and sought their opinion after which, it was clarified those views would be taken into consideration, said CM.
