Kochi : Tender processing is underway to press more boats into water metro project. Tender has been called for 15 boats with 50-seater capacity. There will be 30 boats in all. Five boats with 6-seater capacity have been already obtained, all of which are currently on test drills along Vypin – High Court route. Water metro services are ready to take off on 1st of November, said officials. Boat jetty constructions have been completed at Vypin and High court.
The Cochin shipyard informed adding 23 more six-seater boats in June. When that happens, metro services could be expanded further. The water metro network will run a length of 76 kms knit by 38 terminals between which will ply, a total of 78 boats with varied seating capacities. Boats will be of electric-hybrid genre. These vessels fueled by electric power are also designed to switch to diesel-generator in emergency situations.
