Thiruvananthapuram : S Hareesh is winner of Wayalar Award for 2022, selected for his novel “Meesha. The announcement came from Wayalar Memorial Trust president, Perunadavum Sreedharan.
The award comes with cash prize of one lakh rupees, citation and a sculpture designed by Kannai Kunjuraman. The award is 46th of its genre.
The award selection committee comprises Sara joseph, VJ Janes and V Ramankutty. The award will be given away at a ceremony at Nishagandhi auditorium in Thiruvananthapuram at 5.30 pm on 27th October, the death anniversary day of Wayalar Ramavarma.
“Meesha” is Hareesh’s first novel. The book perceives yesteryear caste system heppenings of Kerala against Dailt backdrop. The works were published in Mathrubhumi magazine but later withdrawn following opposition by some temple folks and a few Hindu organisations. The disrupted works were later picked by DC Books in 2018 and published in form of novel.
