Thiruvananthapuram: An overwhelming number of government employees volunteered to donate 5 day’s salary to aid victims devastated by Wayanad landslides. The employees conveyed the compassionate gesture to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan though various organisations they are attached to. The organisations asked for instalment facility for the donations and further that nobody shall be coaxed to contributions against their will. The matter from discussions is under government consideration.
Context : The Chief Minister invited leaders of employee organisations to discuss help for those affected by landslides in Wayanad. The leaders representing staff asked to allow employees to pay a day’s salary each month over five instalments. Those who wish to make one-time donation can do so. Also, if people wish to donate more than 5 day’s salary, they would be welcome to do so, the leaders said.
