Meppadi : A financial assistance amounting Rs. 2000 crores has been urged for rehabilitation of disaster victims from the Central delegates team that visited the landslide-ravaged terrain in Wayanad, said member of the Cabinet Sub-committee, Minister Mohamed Riyas, at a press conference on Friday.
The sub-committee also decided to start shifting people from relief camps to their homes. Relaxation to loan repayments for the disaster victims was also brought to the attention of visiting team, the Minister said.
Clean-up works will begin soon and is expected to last 90 days to complete. Relief money announced by the government will be remitted to the families soon. The camps will meanwhile continue to remain, the Minister told reporters.
Around 125 houses including government quarters have been identified for accommodation for disaster victims. Most of the houses are ready for immediate occupancy. Soon as the Collector completes his inspections, the houses will be made available to reside. The Collector has also been urged to make interventions for provision of basic furniture and household appliances, the Minister added.
