THRISSUR : Nobody should assume running the new citizenship amendment in Kerala, said Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday. The legislation is aimed at creating divides along communal lines in the society and pulling the constitution apart. And all seeking to preserve constitutionality must unite to oppose the law, the Chief Minister said.

Inaugurating the State Conference of Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ) in Thrissur, Pinarayi urged the media to not see secular and communal forces in the same light.

Mandating religion certificate would be impossible in Kerala, Pinarayi assured. No one should imagine dividing the people of Kerala using high-handedness, the minister said.

We are in an era where, the government decides on what and how news gets reported, Pinarayi said at the function, adding that, there are huge challenges journalists are faced with, of late.

The govt shares solidarity with journalists to preserve freedom of press, Pinarayi said.  Lack of secure and constant employment continues to plague this segment, he added.

Journalists staffed on contract basis eventually undergo considerable stress the CM said. This reality has dawned up on the fraternity now, after scoffing the prospects when forecast in the past, he added.
