Well Known Photographer Sivan Passes Away

Thiruvananthapuram : Well known photographer and director Sivan has passed away following cardiac arrest. He was 89. The end came at a private hospital in the city.

Sivan was a prominent name in cinema, drama  and documentary. He was three-time recipient of national film award. Sivan captured lives of several political stalwarts beginning with Jawaharlal Nehru. He was still-photographer for legendary movie “Chemeen” and was the owner of Siva’s Studio set up in Thiruvananthapuram in 1959.

He later became the 1st photographer at Travancore-Cochi Government Press. Sivan photographed oath-taking ceremony of Kerala’s first ministerial cabinet and numerous momentous occasions later on.

Sivan was director of the first children’s movie “Abhayam. His notable films included Swapnam, Yagam, Kochu Kochu Mohangal, Kilivathil, Keshu and Oru Yatra.

Sivan was second of the  six children born to Harippad Padeettil Veetil Gopala Pillai and Vettuvilatanjil Veetil Bhavaniamma. Wife : Late Smt. Chandramani Children : Director and photographer Santhosh Sivan, Sangeeth Sivan, Sanjeev Sivan  Saritha Rajeev. Chidren-in-law : Jayasree, Deepa, Deepti and Rajeev. Funeral would be held at a later date.
