Thiruvananthapuram: There will be assured justice to currently protest fasting dalit student Deepa P Mohan, as soon as the university’s explanatory note comes in, said state Minister for Higher Education, R Bindu on Saturday. The govt has deep concerns on Deepa’s health condition and I have similar feelings personally too, said the minister.
If the university delays putting aside of the accused teacher, instruction to make that happen shall be issued directly to the him, the university or authorities, the minister said. Deepa should take this for solid assurance and she end the fast, the minister urged.
I am unable to meet with Deepa directly because that’s a Covid hospital. I understand that the Vice Chancellor has assured Deepa of being able to do her research without hindrance or emotional difficulty of any kind at the university, where she will be provided with all support including library, lab and other infrastructural facilities, the minister said.
Even so, the protest is prolonged owing to university’s reluctance to take the kind of action against the accused teacher as recommended by Deepa. The High Court and Scheduled Tribe Commission have intervened in complaint Deepa lodged earlier. The govt too wishes that a decision be spelt at the earliest taking the latest complaint too into account. The university has questioned why there is hesitation for probe after setting the accused aside from his post. If there be any technical hindrance in the matter, the university has been instructed to list what the problem might be, the minister said.
