Kollam DCC Secretary Kanjiravilla Ajaykumar made the intimidating phone call to doctor who lodged police complaint telling that, there will be more confrontations made outside of the hospital.
A group of persons led by Shoornad(south) panchayath president and Congress mandalam president, Sreekumar, had assaulted the doctor at Taluk Hospital earlier. Accused in the case are Kanjiraivlla Ajaykumar and Youth Congress leader Nivin Kallada, both of who are charged with non-bailable offences. Following the lauch of case, Sreekumar phoned the doctor vowing more trouble.
Initially Sreekumar spoke on the line before passing the phone to Ajaykumar, who started his conversation saying he was a lawyer and also the DCC secretary. He then asked for the victim doctor to withdraw his complaint and then wound his talk threatening “There is no protection outside the hospital, you see…we shall face up to you there.” The doctor then hung up the call.
The incident involved took place on the night of Tuesday. 85-year-old Shoornad West native who fell into a well was brought to the hospital seemingly dead. The panchayat president asked the duty doctor to come outside and check the woman laid inside the ambulance to confirm death. The doctor said since it was a case of unnatural death, the matter has to be reported to the doctor as a matter of protocol. For some reason, Sreekumar felt enraged at this and he phoned his party aides to the scene. S gang of Congress workers led by Cong. Block President Thundil Naushad and Nithin Kallada the arrived and a brawl ensued. Hearing of the commotion, police soon reached the spot and were pushed away by Congress workers, who turned to the the doctor and attacked him. They also snatched his mobile phone.
Doctors at the hospital protested the rogue behaviour by boycotting the hospital’s OP. The boycott will continue until the culprits are charged under Hospital Protection Act and arrested, the KGMI said in its statement. The IMI District Committee too expressed protest over the incident.
