Kochi : There will be changes to Opposition approach toward the government and fulsome backing for government’s Covid mitigation efforts, said Oppn Leader-designate, VD Satheeshan.
“The Oppn will not adopt stance to hamper rule by a government elected by the people and instead lend full cooperation to government in its fight against the dreadful pandemic. Also, the Oppn will not become willing to confront the government on Health, Education and all such prevalent sectors,” said VD Satheeshan announcing policy decisions at a press conference in Kochi, soon after the High Command’s decision on his post came through. My line of functioning would be one that opposes communalism whether it be majority or the minorities, he said.
To the media question if his declarations meant that Ramesh Chennithala was all wrong in approach, VD Satheeshan said, the statement did not hold much meaning now, given that, there are changes that get introduced from time to time. People expect positive approach on part of the Opposition. Changes in keeping with the times will be made, he added.
This post of Opposition Leader is not a crown of roses. Congress has suffered huge defeat, one similar to the debacle of 1967. We should be able to climb ashore from the situation and not fight among ourselves. The public should be sense our standing by them. Congress has not evaluated reasons for the debacle yet, said Satheeshan, adding that, the assessment will be made once Ashok Chauhan Committee comes into being.
