THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : The govt will ensure implementing  decisions designed to promote business investments in the state, said the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. It will also look into complaints regarding unhelpful attitude meted out by certain establishments. Nobody will be allowed to create unnecessary hurdles, the minister added.

CM was responding to a query during talks with prominent business figures in the capital Saturday. Chief Secretary Tom Jose and   Secretary – Department of Industries and Commerce – Sanjay Garg were present at the meeting. PK Mathews)IBS) served as  the moderator.

Tourism holds key to development in the state, Pinarayi said. The bounties bestowed by nature in Kerala have not been adequately capitalized, said the minister. One person one tourist should be the goal. The tourism sector and government have always moved forward together. The bond would be strengthened in times ahead, said the minister.

It is true that master plans in urban areas are obsolete.  It will be revamped. The govt is also taking steps to  take leverage of  relaxations effected by  Centre   in the  Coastal Protection Act recently, the minister said.

The delay  in clearances from the Pollution Control Board  is also a snag and will be resolved. The global investors meet (Ascend 2020) to be held in Kochi on 9, 10 January is part  of govt initiatives to promote ease of doing business, CM said. Investors from all over the world will attend the meet.

A couple of delegates at the meeting pointed out that  January 1 ban on plastics could adversely affect retailers. The govt will look into the matter, Pinarayi assured.

The business fraternity pitched in their woes. Employees should be groomed to carry out duties in line with govt policies. Waste disposals should work efficiently at tourist locations. There should be business friendly laws pertaining to land use in urban areas and a high-level task force for  speedy remedial measures. Lapses in amendments pertaining to construction laws should be resolved. Indiscriminate issue of stop memo by panchayats must stop.  Sand, rock and other material should be made  available to the building sector and steps taken to replace defunct units at business parks with new enterprises.

Having raised their concerns, the delegates went on to felicitate the govt for its policies, which they said has helped promote a  better business climate in the state.
