Kochi: : Flyovers over city’s two most congested traffic junctions, namely Vyttila and Kundanoor, were inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday. The Vyttila flyover was inaugurated 9.30 am via videoconferencing and the Kundanoor flyover at 11 am. PWD minister G Sudhakaran presided at both functions and Minister Thomas Isaac was the chief guest.
With happiness and pride, I dedicate these flyovers to people of the state, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. As a representative I am happy to uphold people’s trust laid in this government as much I am about being able to complete the grounded project within set timeframe, said CM .
With an average of over 10,000 vehicles crisscrossing Vyttila junction in an hour, commuters would remain struck for hours during daytime for passage. Now with coming into being of Vyttila flyover, traffic eases not just for travelers from Aluva, Alappuzha toward Vyttila hub but also for those entering the city from Thripunitara side.
This government sees development as basic requirement for the state for which, it is important to have bridges, flyovers, roads and access paths for people’s travel. The Public Works Department sees new technology as an absolute essential to new age constructions. This government gives as much importance to fulfilling promises as it does to making welfare announcements, said CM during the event.
At Kundanoor - a conjunction of 3 national highways, the flyover will substantial time for not just for travelers along national highways to north and south directions but also for those traveling from Thripunitura to Kochi-Dhaushkode and Maradu-Kundanoor route.
Comprising 3 lanes each in either directions, the flyover have been built on state-of-the-art technology. The state govt was also able to takeover construction works from the national authority and exempt public from the burden of toll. The two projects, now completed by Pinarayi govt, had remained blockaded during previous UDF govt tenure claiming lack of funds
