Thalasserry: In Kannur, woman District Secretary and Opposition leader at Municipal Corporation ,Sajitha teacher,   resigned from Muslim League to contest polls on her own from Chettamkunnu, where she is currently the Ward Councilor.

Sajitha said she was contesting election following wide demand from people of her ward, adding that, she will take steps to prevent BJP  from grabbing seat there. On the breakup, she said League had been unforgivably unjust to her in their decision asking members who have worked over 15 years at self-government institutions, to stay out of polls this time. She has served seven terms as Ward Councilor winning twice at bypolls, Sajitha said. Sajitha first fought elections at Kazhipangad ward in 1999.

For some time now, there has been protest brewing over League’s policy of sidelining women candidates. Sajittha’s dissent reflects that sentiment. She works as  teacher at Prime College in Thalasserry and is Coordinator at CHS.
