Thirur: In a amusing brawl , Congress groups came to blows with one another over a BJP worker’s presence and telling participation at their candidate selection meeting for Thiurnavaya polls.
The ruckus began when BJP worker gestured support for Youth Congress president Shaju Mattathil as party candidate. What started as war of words, soon became physical. The BJP worker who attended the ward-11 meeting guised as official party supporter was identified as Praveen.
The meeting was held in the presence of block president C Moideen and Mandalam president Mullakal Muhammad Ali, where P Nizar nominated KP Lathif as candidate. It was seconded by Solomon. However, Mandalam Secretary CP Ibrahim nominated Shaju Madathil in his official capacity. This was immediately supported by BJP worker Praveen.
The Congress group on opposite side questioned Praveen’s credentials and his presence at the party meeting. When the cover became blown, Shaju Mattathil entered into arguments with the opposing group. As the fight heated up, the group supporting KP Lathif waked out of the meeting. They later declared Lathif as an independent candidate.
