Thiruvananthapuram: The 22nd session of current state Assembly began with Governor Arif Muhammad Khan announcing state policy. The governor criticised the Opposition for attempting to disrupt his speech. The members should allow carrying out of my constitutionally mandated responsibility, the governor said to the Opposition.
The Assembly session began 9 am morning. The Opposition members tried to disrupt House proceedings right from the start. The policy announcement continued nevertheless. The governor described the state government as one that ensured no one went hungry in lockdown conditions.
Other remarks: This govt is also one that faced several challenges. The road ahead too has its perils. This govt would be able to tide over them however. Covid seriously impacted lives of the ordinary. The state should bring down the case numbers further. This govt devised several schemes to mitigate covid. The state govt is also the first to have announced a Rs 20,000 crore to fight the pandemic.
Central agencies are getting in the way of state’s ambitious welfare projects. The local body election victory is an endorsement of public support the current govt enjoys. The govt handed secure homes to lakhs of people in the state. State’s humanitarian efforts in times of disaster are commendable, said the Governor during his speech.
The policy announcement speech was boycotted by the Opposition.
