Kozhikod: Youth abducted from Koylandi by an armed gang has been released. The crime took place last evening 5. 30 pm when the gang arrived at Ashraf’s house brandishing knife and forced him into their waiting vehicle and sped away. He was dropped at Kundhamangalam early this morning. According to police, Ashraf has a leg fracture and other injuries from thrashing he took from his abductors. Police found Ashraf stranded near a saw mill located on stretch between Kundamagalam and Mavoor.
The abductors, according to the police, are gold smuggling racketeers operating in Koduvally region. Ashraf reportedly brought gold from Riyadh on 26 May and sold it to someone else instead of delivering it to the culprits as arranged. This led to confrontation between gangs and Ashraf’s abduction, said police.
The probe was conducted by a special team headed by Vadakkara DySP based on complaint lodged by Ashraf’s brother.
