Thiruvananthapuram : Zika infection in the state has been brought under control, the Health Minister Veena George informed Saturday. No case has been reported in the past one week after tally for Zika touched 66 earlier, of which 62 pertained to Thiruvananthapuram district alone. Two cases were reported from Ernakulam and one each from Kottayam and Kollam. There is no one currently under treatment for that virus and among those infected early, no body suffered critical condition at any point. All that fell ill had some kind of link to Thiruvananthapuram.
Containing the virus and preventing its spread into other districts has been a feat indeed. Massive measures for mosquito eradication were carried out as a result of which chicken guinea and dengue fever cases too witnessed decline. It is from massive interventions on part of the Health Department that Zika could be reined in a short time. There were enormous efforts conducted by the corporation department and revenue department in this regard, said the minister and congratulated everybody for the accomplishment.
