NEW DELHI : India accounts for one out of three covid cases and one out of five virus deaths reported daily from around the world. There were 3,02,570 new positive cases recorded on Thursday of which, 96,551 originated from India. US reported 38,811 cases on the same day and Brazil 40,431. Global number for covid deaths on Thursday figured at 5,992 of which, 1209 pertains to India, 1090 to that of US and Brazil recorded 922.
On Thursday, Maharashtra alone accounted for nearly 500 deaths. Despite 8 months into the pandemic, India stands out as the worst case scenario among countries of the world where daily cases of the infection and death are spiraling uncontrolled.
There were 8.72 lakh new cases and 10,871 virus deaths reported between 1st - 10th of September meaning, the daily average for the country’s deaths came to around 1000 and that for new cases 1 lakh. With its unabated momentum, India is set to surpass US numbers by mid of next month.
Meanwhile, there were 70880 recoveries recorded around the country in the past 24 hours bringing the national total for recoveries to 35.43 lakh. The countrywide recovery rate now stands at 77.65 percent. 9,43,480 people are currently under treatment for covid, of whom 48 percent pertain to Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh combined.
Mahrashtra Crosses 10-lakh Mark
Confirmed cases in Maharashtra has now exceeded 10 lakh. There were 24,886 fresh infections reported in the state on Friday and 442 more died on the day. The state-total for infections now stands at 10,15,681 and death-toll at 28,724. Karnataka reported 9,464 and 130 deaths on the same day soaring its state total for deaths to 7,067. On Friday, Andhra reported 999 cases and 77 deaths while Tamil Nadu recorded 5519 cases and 77 deaths, and for Delhi, cases on Friday figured at 4266 and deaths at 21.
