NEW DELHI : BJP financed its Lok Sabha election campaign of 2019 with Rs 1,264 crore and the party's war chest balance now stands at Rs 3,515 crore across banks and Rs 46 crore on hand. The data was divulged by Election Commission based on affidavit submitted by the party’s headquarters.
A total of Rs 1,078 cr went into publicity campaign in 2019, of which Rs 657 crore was distributed among states across its units for the purpose and another Rs 186 cr for party activities at unit level. Also Rs 212 crore was spent on surveys, call centres and election monitoring.
The largest chunk of campaign finance was offloaded in Gujarat, a whopping Rs 100.33 crore. Rs 65 crore was allocated to West Bengal for 42 seats there, Rs 35.5 crore to Uttar Pradesh against 80 seats and Rs 24.53 crore for battle grounds of Kerala.
Rs 325 crore was spent on core media and advertisement campaigns that originated from Madhya Pradesh. Rs 175 crore were spent on specially chartered planes and helicopters. Flags, thorans, caps, badges, flyers etc took up another Rs 25 crore while Rs 15 core was spent to organize the string of public meetings.
