Surat : The Chief Magistrate Court in Surat sentenced Rahul Gandhi for two years in prison for insulting the Modi Community. Rahul has been granted bail in the case.
In his speech in Karnataka’s Kollar during 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul had said “All thieves come by the name Modi. Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi, Narendra Modi. How come all thieves thieves have the surname Modi”, he had said.
The case against Rahul was filed by Purnesh Modi, a former minister and MLA from Surat, who alleged that Rahul’s statement brought shame to the entire Modi community. The conviction that carries under IPC Sec 504 carries a maximum of two years for criminal defamation.
