New Delhi : The Centre approved nine names recommended by the Collegium, including that of Kerala High Court judge CT Ravikumar, for appointment as Supreme Court judges. The government issued orders of appointment for all nine -the names of which came about at the Collegium headed by Chief Justice NV Ramana.
In a first, there were women justices recommended in the Collegium list, of whom, the Karnataka High Court Judge BV Nagaratna will likely become the country’s first woman Chief Justice in 2027. Chief Justice of Telangana High Court Heema Kohli and Gujarat High Court Judge Bella Trivedi are the two other women judges.
The others are : Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Abhay Sreenivas Okha, Gujarat Chief Justice Vikramnath, Sikkim Chief Justice Jitendra Maheswari and Madras High Court Judge MM Sundaresh. The Collegium has also recommended for the former Additional Solicitor General PS Sarasihaya to be appointed directly as Supreme Court judge.
Abhay Okha is the country’s senior most judge. The appointments have been published on the Supreme Court’s official website.
