Mumbai : A court in Mumbai on Wednesday send Republic TV CEO and editor-cum-chairman, Arnab Goswami into 14 days of judicial custody and dismissed his claims of physical assault by cops while being taken into custody. The media man spent the night in Albaug school - the covid centre designated to Alibaug prison.
The case Arnab ivolving present arrest relates to suicide of an architect Anvay Naik and his mother in 2018. In the suicide note left behind, 53-year-old Anvay named Arnab, blaming him for depriving his payment dues. The case was closed during the tenure of previous government but re-opened recently on appeal from the architect’s family.
Meanwhile the Alibaug court rejected police’s demand for 14-day custody and also Arnab’s charge that he had been manhandled by the cops. A 13-minute scene captured on video showed policemen pleading with the editor to cooperate following which, they were forced to drag him away.
Goswami has filed a bail plea and petition to scrap the case against him - a move Naik’s family is bracing to resist. The family has filed petition in Bombay High Court seeking due intervention.
