NEW DELHI: Republic TV CEO and editor-cum-chairman ,Arnab Goswami, gets bail from Supreme Court in his abetment to suicide case involving an interior designer Anvay Naik and his mother who killed themselves in 2018, after leaving behind a note naming Arnab for denying payments due from work.
Arnab is being released from jail after furnishing Rs 50,000 in bond. The ruling came from Justice DY Chandrachud who heard Arnab’s plea after he failed to get bail from Bombay High Court 2 days back.
Earlier, the apex court had verbally stated that the state govt. appears to be avenging the media man - something that court stand looking, it said. How does abetment to suicide fall in the purview of present case ?, the court asked. It clarified that nonpayment of dues do not amount to abetment to suicide. The High Court should be able to protect rights involved, the top court observed.
