Assam has been conferred the “Best State Promoting Sports” in the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry’s (FICCI) India Sports Awards 2020.
The title was bestowed upon Assam at a virtual event, 8th December. Assam has been recognised for its active upliftment of sports activities and its efforts to grow and develop sports and athletes.
Assam’s Director General of sports, Onkar Kedia, received the award on behalf of the state. He mentioned a few important achievements and state steps towards promotion of sports.
Kedia told media about the construction of a multi-purpose sports complex in Dibrugarh, North Lakhimpur and Kamrup District, as well as plans to construct 500 playfields in various parts of Assam.
