NEW DELHI : Following violence and arson in the northeastern states over the controversial Citizenship law, several countries including US, England, France and Israel, have issued advisories to citizens against travel to Assam and adjoining regions. For effective warnings, these countries have issued the advisories through their respective local governing bodies.
Fiery protests gripped north eastern parts of the country following the controversial law that will confer citizenship taking an individual’s religion into account. Widespread arson, vandalism and violent clashes were eported in Assam and parts of Mehgalaya and West Bengal since Wednesday. The All Assam students have called marches to govt offices while demonstrations featuring cinema personalities have been planned for tomorrow, Sunday.
According to latest reports, the paramilitary which joined police to battle the situation is now being reinforced with batches of coastal guard . Life in Assam had been paralysed for 4 days, post the Citizenship Amendment becoming law of the land on 11 December, after being cleared by the Rajya Sabha..
Meanwhile, sighs of a lull might be in the air, given govt decision on Saturday to restore internet and mobile services in the state. Also petrol pump and other essential utilities are being set functional.
