Avtar Singh Sadiq- A Popular Indian Communist Leader in Britain, Passes Away

London > Famous communist leader and former secretary of Association of Indian Communists in UK, a fraction of CPI M in Britain, Avtar Singh Sadiq died after a sudden re-occurrence of his recent illness. He had also served as the National President of the Indian Workers’ Association (UK), of which he was currently senior vice president. He was one of the founder members of the Progressive Writers’ Association.

Comrade Sadiq who was a Race Equality Officer by profession, has also proved his worth as an ideological theoretician, a prolific writer, a poet and an author of numerous books in Punjabi. He lived in Leicester with his lifelong partner Gurdarshan Kaur and their son Vinay.

He was a lifelong close comrade of iconic communist leader and former CPI M General Secretary Harkishan Singh Surjeet. Comrade Sadiq was equally comfortable in organizing a cultural dance group Bhangra to engage with young people, to attending many Congress’s of the Communist Party of India Marxist and representing the CPI M at International Marxist Conferences whenever requested.

CPI M Gen. Secretary Sitaram Yechury condoled with Com. Sadiq's family and fellow comrades on their loss. The CPI M deeply regrets the passing away of the dedicated communist Avatar Singh Sadiq. He served the party through the Association of Indian Communists in Great Britain and The Indian Workers Association and immensely contributed to the consolidation of these organizations. Com. Avatar will be sorely missed and will always remain among the ranks of dedicated Communists who worked to establish an exploitation free society - wrote Yechury in his commiseration note.
