New Delhi : In a rather unusual gesture, two Congress leaders have endorsed Sangh Parivar's demand on the disputed 2.77 acre land in Ayodhya saying, Ram temple should be built on site.
The pro note came from senior Congress working committee members Harish Rawat - former Uttarakhand CM, and former Union Minister Jitin Prasad. Both made their statements to national media, on sidelines of a high-level meeting called by Sonia Gandhi.
"Being an Hindu, I wish to see the temple constructed," said Jitin, adding "We shall abide by whatever verdict the Supreme Court rules".
Ravat elaborated support further saying "Congress always viewed the case as pure land dispute. Congress always tried to built Ram temple there," he said, remarking "However it was BJP that played politics and snowballed it into a crisis".
Even earlier, Congress leaders from isolated quarters have lend BJP support on contentious issues like Kashmir division, triple talak and citizen's registers, prompting Sonia to convene high-level meeting each time to smoothen out differences.
