Ban On Feeding Stray Dogs Not Practical: Supreme Court

Web Desk(Tvm)Updated: Saturday Nov 12, 2022

New Delhi :  The Supreme Court set aside the  Bombay High Court ruling that forbade feeding of street dogs without first adopting them. If dogs are allowed to go hungry, they could turn violent. However, adopting of dogs and then feeding them only inside of houses is not practical, the court observed.

There could be some kind of controls introduced to curb the stray menace. However, starving the animals wholly is no solution. The Municipal corporation and other agencies may be approached in this regard, observed the apex court Bench comprising Justices, Jeevan and JK Maheshwari.

In the ruling, the Supreme Court also prohibited any legal against dog-feeders based on the Bombay Court ruling. The court will hear the case again on the 16th.
