BJP Allies To Approach Supreme Court Against Citizenship Amendment Act : Assam

NEW DELHI : BJP’s strategy for Muslim refugees has spurred its allies in Assam to challenge the new law in the apex court.

According to latest reports,  Assam Gana Parishad is all set to question the constitutionality of the Citizenship Amendment passed by Raja Sabha on 11 Dec.


Apart from seeking Supreme Court say in the mater,  Gana Parishad leadership will also enter into dialogues with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.  

Assam has been the hotbed of anti-Amendment protests that continues to spread through the northeastern states of the country. Five people have died so far in the agitations. The state continues to witness arson, vandalism and disruption of rail and road services. Violent confrontations between people and police resulted in casualties on both sides.


Assam Gana Parishad  has three ministers in the  BJP-led govt in the state. The party had supported the  Amendment Bill in the parliament, leading to discontent within its rungs r and subsequent resignations of several veterans from  the party.
