Mumbai : The Maharashtra stalemate seems to be ending, after BJP announced, it was calling quits. Following the withdrawal, the Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Sunday night asked the Shiv Sena if it was willing and able to stake claim.
Incidentally Shiv Sena has been softening upto Sharad Pawar-led NCP and Congress in recent weeks. However Congress has refused to tie-up and will instead outside support to the Shiv Sena – NCP government.
The sudden twist in developments, has thrown greater bargaining power on side of opposition Congress and NCP.
NCP has clarified that Shiv Sena should break away from NDA before power alliance can be worked out. Incidentally, Shiv Sena’s lone MP in Modi cabinet, Arvind Sawant has announced his resignation.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena and NCP has called a meeting of its MLAs and the Congress’s top leadership meeting in Delhi today.
Shiv Sena with 56 seats is a far shot from halfway mark of 145. BJP has 105 seats.
Meanwhile MPs of both Shiv Sena and Congress continue to remain in resorts as preventive to horse-trading.
