Imphal ; BJP-led govt in Manipur has slid into crisis after four MLAs from the coalition tendered their resignations. All four belong to National People’s Party(NPP) - BJP’s electoral ally in the state.
Those leaving include NPP leader andDeputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar Singh, the others being Tribal and Hills Area Development Minister N Kayoshii, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Letpao Haokip and Health and family Welfare Minister L Jayanta Kumar Singh.
Earlier 3 BJP MLAs - Subhashchandra Singh, TT Haokip and Samuel Jendai - had resigned from the party and joined Congress earlier on Wednesday. Trinamool Congress MLA T Robindro Singh and Independent MLA Shahabuddin had withdrawn support to the government as well.
In the 59-seat Assembly, BJP won 21 seats in 2017 elections, while Congress emerged the single largest party with 28 seats. However, BJP formed the government taking in 4 MLAs from Naga People’s front(NPF), 4 from NPP, 1 from Trinamool Congress MLA Shyamkumar Singh and seven more Congrss legislators joined the saffron party, taking its numbers to 40.
