Lucknow: In a heart-wrenching aftermath, the brother of 19-year-old Dalit girl, who the UP police cremated without family consent, collected her burnt bones from the ashes left at the site. It was an  act of  cruel state high-handedness in which its cops consigned the girl’s body to flames in a hastily set-up pyre and  prevented the  family from so little as to even having a glimpse of their loved one. The uncermonious doing  also deprived the  victim a dignified funeral.

Using his bare hands, her brother now collected her mortal remains, so the family can perform rituals and take respite in seeing the remains of their dead one course through a dignified departure.

On 14 of September, in  deserted stretch,  the 19-year-old Dalit girl was found with grave injures from tortures and suspected gangrape. Her tongue too was ripped-off. Barely alive, the girl  was first admitted to the government hospital and later shifted to Delhi’s AIIMS, where she succumbed to her wounds on 29 Sept.
