Karimganj (Assam) > A BSF head constable was killed and another was seriously injured when a constable of the force opened fire with his service rifle at Lakhipur Border Out Post (BOP) in south Assam's Karimganj district, BSF and police sources said on Wednesday.
Constable Shiv Yogi Pandey of BSF was on duty in Lakhipur BOP when at around 9:15 pm Tuesday entered into an argument over some issue with two head constables of his company.
Accused Shiv Yogi Pandey opened fire with his Insas rifle and shot 9 rounds in which Ashok Kumar Kangaria died on the spot and A R Pal got seriously injured, the sources said.
Both Kangaria and Pal were head constables. Pal has been referred to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.
The accused has fled with the rifle and two loaded magazines with 40 rounds of live ammunition and a wireless set, the sources said.
An elaborate search operation was launched by BSF and other security forces.
