New Delhi: : 20,021 new covid infections were reported yesterday taking the countrywide case tally to over 1.02 crore. There were 279 virus deaths reported in the past 24 hours spiking the fatality count so far to 1.47 lakh. Samples tested since August figured at 7.15 lakh. Dry run for inoculation process has begun in states of Punjab, Assam, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat. Dry run refers to process of evaluating preparations made so far. At centres in 2 select districts from each of the 4 states, more than 100 volunteers will be inoculated with dummy vaccines.
Preparations have been set in motion for securing vaccines, their refrigeration and distribution. All stages involved in the vaccination process, beginning with procurement, will be covered in the dry run. Each stage will undergo thorough scrutiny to identify lapses and effect corrections. The dry run is meant to oversee the online system developed for distribution vaccines once they are ready to be administered.
