New Delhi : After losing power in Bihar, the Modi government is setting up central agencies to chase after political opponents. The CBI will now re-open the case case against RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav, it had previously closed citing lack of evidence – a decision, the RJD leadership says, is on instructions from higher-ups.
The case pertains to Lalu’s tenure as Railway minister under the UPA -1 government. The investigations in the case began in 2018 was closed in May of 2021 and CBI gave Lalu the clean-chit. It was alleged that Lalu received a luxury bunglow in South Delhi as bribe from real estate major DLF, in return for sanctioning rail land lease projects in Mumbai’s Bandra and therevamp of New Delhi Railway station. His children Tejaswi Yadav, Chanda Yadav and Ragini Yadav were also named in the case.
Lalu, who was released from prison in corruption case, underwent a kidney transplant earlier this month. The move to deploy CBI comes as he recuperates from the surgery.
