New Delhi > The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Thursday approved leasing out six airports - Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram and Mangaluru through Public Private Partnership (PPP). The operation, management and development of all these aerodromes, owned by the Airports Authority of India, would be done under PPP, an official tweet said. This move to privatise 6 major airports comes as the latest among series of hardline privatisation policies adopted by the BJP Goverment ever since in power.
Briefing mediapersons about the Cabinet decision, Union Minister of Electronics & IT and Law & Justice Ravi Shankar Prasad said,' The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given "In-principle" approval for leasing out six airports of AAI viz Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram and Mangaluru for operation, management and development under Public Private Partnership (PPP) through Public Private Partnership Appraisal Committee (PPPAC).
Operation, management and development of these leased out airports would be done through Public Private Partnership Appraisal Committee. Any issue that is beyond the scope of the committee would be dealt with by an empowered group of secretaries, the tweet said.
