Central Govt Rechristens NMML: Nehru’s Name Removed; “Prime Minister’s Museum” Now On

New Delhi : The  Nehru Memorial Museum and Library(NMML) Society has been rechristened -  Nehru’s name is wiped away in the new title and   replaced by “Prime Minister”. The monument will henceforth be known as Prime Minister’s Museum and Library Society(PMML).

The name-change was announced by Museum Chairperson Nripendra Mishra on occasion of 77th Independence Day on Tuesday.

A meeting was held in prelude to the name-change, presided by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh who  also held office as Vice President to NMML. The decision to rechristen  was arrived at the meeting in the wake of which, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be the Chairman of the Society.

Those in attendance at the meeting also included Union Ministers Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitaraman, Dharmendra Pradhan and 29 members of the Society including Kishan Reddy and Anurag Thakur.

Originally NMML was official residence of Nehru. The building was dedicated to the nation by then President of India, S Radhakrishnan, on the 75th birthday of Nehru. Nehru lived resided there  from August of 1948 to 27 May 1964. The building was renovated and converted into a museum in April of 2022.
