New Delhi :  Around 16 lakh people in the country’s capital  exist in dingy conditions, living in hutment clusters in and around.. The figure was quoted by Ministry For Urban development in reply to V Sovadasan in the Rajya Sabha. The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board rehabilitated a mere 1297 people and the Delhi Development Authority another 8379 and  the funds earmarked for this was Rs 212 crores.  Asked on how many families existed without access to drinking water and electricity, the figure was unavailable.

All this when the Modi government is spending tens of billions of rupees on projects such as Central Vista. A building in Pragati Maidan for G20 summit was readied at cost of Rs 2700 crores while the Delhi Development Authority controlled by the Central govt shows no concern for the poor, said V Sivadasan..
