New Delhi : Following instructions of the Centre, the science academies have scrapped science and health awards Directive in this regard was issued by the Union Ministry of Science and Technology.
The Indian National Science Academy (INSA) canceled 72 awards for budding scientists, science teachers and scientists on par with world standards. The National Academy of Sciences, India(NASI) canceled more than 20 of its awards following Centre’s directive.
Senior scientists express wariness that repealing awards instituted by and for scientists will take away the autonomy of science institutions. The essence of this move is, the government will decide what awards to give in institutions it funds.
