NEW DELHI : Speaking on border situation post bloody combat at India-China Line of Actual Control(LAC) that left 20 soldiers dead this week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said “there’s no one inside our territory or is any of the post captured.” “Our nation today has the capability to ensure that no one can eye even an inch inside our borders,” he added.
Modi was speaking at an all-party meeting called to discuss the clash that saw the entire country hurt and outraged at the brutal attack amid the pandemic. “I want to assure the nation that the sacrifice of Indian soldiers would not go in vain and India, while peace-loving, is also capable to rendering befitting reply if provoked,” said PM.
The Backdrop
According to military press release on 17th June, China, in violation of bilateral agreements, sought to erect a structure in Galwan valley on our side of the LAC giving rise to a source of dispute. In a savage attack without parallels in history of modern armies, the Chinese troops assaulted Indian soldiers with iron rods and clubs wrapped in barbed wire laced with nails. Many were thrown off a steep ridge and some fell into the river Galwan.
The violence is reminiscent of China’s brutal killing of 31 Soviet border guards in 1969.
