NEW DELHI : President Ramnath Kovind on Friday sparked an Opposition uproar at the opening session of Parliament when he said, "Citizenship Amendment Act fulfilled Mahatma Gandhiji’s dream.” It was Gandhiji’s dream to shelter minorities from Pakistan, the president elaborated; and CAA has just fulfilled that wish, Kovind said. The remarks came in the course of his speech on Centre’s policy in the Parliament on Friday,
The president also offered justification to scrapping of Article 370 and Article 35A of the Constitution saying, the abrogation has paved way for equal development of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
The joint sitting of Parliament heralded the beginning of the Union Budget session which is scheduled to l conclude on 11 February.
