Conflict in Manipur Continues; Train Services Stopped

Imphal : As  ethnic conflicts between the dominant Methi  community and that of tribal community Kuku gets out of government control, train services in Manipur have been suspended.  All trains into Manipur have been cancelled. The stoppage follows request the Manipur govt made to the North East Railways. No trains would be let into the state until tension eases, said govt sources.

Rioting and arson began Wednesday in the wake of “Tibal Solidarity March” organised in various parts of State by the All-Tribal Sudents Union Manipur(ATSUM).  The govt imposed curfew in some districts and also shutdown internet. As violence continued Thursday, 55 columns of Army and Assam Rifles were deployed with shoot-at-sight orders issued for ‘extreme cases’.

Aslo,Artilce 355 of Constitution was promulgated and former CRPF Director General Kuldip Sngh was appointed as Manipur state security advisor.
